Job Summary and Qualifications

What will you do in this role:

  • Places the mother on the fetal monitor and correctly interpret the strip

  • Responds appropriately to non-reassuring fetal monitor tracings

  • Performs vaginal exams and monitors labor activity accurately

  • Notifies physician promptly of non-reassuring assessments

  • Titrates Pitocin and monitors patient for adverse reactions

  • Performs and interprets stress and non-stress tests

  • Completes OB/Nursery and Labor and Delivery Orientation Checklists

  • Completes the following competencies: External Fetal Monitoring, Labor Specific, Sterile Vaginal Exam, Checking Reflexes, Oximeter Application.

  • Administers magnesium sulfate for preterm labor patients and pre-eclamptic patients.

  • Assists anesthesiologists with epidural placement; recognizes and responds appropriately to epidural complications

  • Recovers C-Sections

  • Circulates for C-Sections

  • Performs and directs nursing procedures, prescribed treatments, based on knowledge of principles and practice of Registered Nurse.

  • Acts as a preceptor

  • Accurate medication administration according to hospital policy

  • Observes and records patient reactions to medication, I.V. therapy, blood transfusion, and treatment.

  • Actively participates in the orientation of new personnel.

What qualifications will you need:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure by the Indiana State Board of Nursing as a Registered Professional Nurse or has active RN Compact State licensure

  • BLS certification required

  • ACLS and NRP certification required within six months of hire

  • AWHONN fetal monitoring certification required within one year of hire

  • STABLE certification preferred

  • Prior OB/Pediatric experience preferred
