Job Summary and Qualifications

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) assists in the delivery of patient care as established by the licensed Occupational Therapist to reach treatment goals through a written treatment plan. The COTA will be responsible for maintaining patient records. The COTA maintains good communication with physicians, licensed therapists, nurses, allied health professionals, social workers, discharge planners, and hospital personnel. The COTA participates in continuous quality improvement and strives to excel in customer service. Employee will be responsible for knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the neonate, infant/child, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population. The COTA actively participates in occupational therapy activities and inservices training.

  • Ability to organize and manage time effectively for maximum productivity and for timely patient treatment and reporting

  • Requires the ability to perform occupational therapy skilled patient treatment procedures under the supervision of the Occupational therapist.

  • Requires considerable walking, stooping, pushing and pulling.

  • Requires body coordination for transferring, positioning and executing exercise routines.

  • Requires visual acuity for chart review and equipment operation.

  • Requires the ability to effectively communicate verbally or in writing with patients, staff and physicians.

  • Clerical abilities to keep accurate departmental records of patient treatment.

  • Ability to relate to people during illness and crisis situation.

What qualifications you will need:

  • One year experience in Acute/Rehabilitation Therapy, preferred.

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) in the State of Texas

  • Associate Degree from an accredited OTA program
