Job Summary and Qualifications

Maintains inventory, prepares and places orders of pharmacy department drugs and supplies. Prepares invoices and financial reports as required by the Director of Pharmacy. Performs selective support functions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Performs the duties of staff Pharmacy Technician as required by department leadership.

  • Maintains an inventory of drugs and supplies in accordance with the current purchasing group programs.

  • Prepares and places drug orders with manufacturers and wholesalers.

  • Prepares and places non-drug supply orders.

  • Receives drug and non-drug supplies and assures the items and counts are correct as per invoice as required by the department and in accordance with inventory management policy and procedure.

  • Distributes supplies in proper location under proper storage conditions as determined by the manufacturer.

  • Maintains shelf label stickers.

  • Prepares necessary documentation to initiate processing of invoices.

  • Manages recall information and return goods process.

  • Conducts review of contract compliance when requested.

  • Performs necessary steps to procure backorder or limited availability drugs and continually provides a status update to the Pharmacy Director.

  • Routinely communicates current drug shortages to the Pharmacy Director utilizing the Current Drug Shortage document.

  • Assists in Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) training and logon issues.

  • Ensures bar codes are attached to ADC and Meditech.

  • Participates in maintaining department inventory levels.

  • Coordinates continuous optimization of Automated Dispensing Cabinets.

  • Provides oversight of the checking of medication expiration dates in ADC cabinets and reconciliation of manually admitted patients.

  • Conducts audits to verify ADC restocking and optimization practices by department personnel to validate adherence to department standards.

  • Monitors all ADCs for integrity and functionality.

  • Ensures ADC best practice and regulatory compliance and informs Director of Pharmacy of any issues.

  • Orders medications based on PAR levels.

  • Orders medications based on clinical need in conjunction with formulary initiatives.

  • Works with DOP or designee as needed in inventory management initiatives.

  • Organizes, supervises, and facilitates the annual drug inventory.

  • Manages bioterrorism inventory and works closely with NVHA Tech.

What qualifications you will need:

EXPERIENCE:

Preferred: Previous Hospital or Pharmacy Buyer experience

EDUCATION:

Required: High School diploma or equivalent

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION:

Required: Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the VA Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

Preferred: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by the VA Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
