Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: (brief summary statement of major functions)

The CVL Surgical Tech is responsible for providing a safe and meaningful service to the CVL patients. The CVL Surgical Tech must be able to perform in a fast paced environment with a teamwork approach. Prioritizes and organizes patient flow to ensure best utilization of time. They must be familiar with all necessary equipment involved in performing assigned duties and be able to operate such equipment when needed. They must have knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy, hemodynamics, sterile technique and operating room processes. The CVL Surgical Tech responsibilities include proper patient set up, scrubbing, circulating, recording, maintenance of sterile technique, locating and use of all supplies, troubleshooting of clinical equipment. The CVL Surgical Tech must have a good understanding of the entire scope of procedures performed within the CVL space. Independent proficiency and full participation in departmental procedures and performance measures, including on call availability, is an expectation. The CVL Surgical Tech establishes and maintains a good rapport and professional relationship with fellow employees, other departments and Medical Staff. They demonstrate competence when performing other related or licensed functions. UIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

Associates degree as a Surgical Tech or Surgical Technician Certification program graduate required.

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

Associates degree as a Surgical Tech or Surgical Technician Certification program graduate required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

  • 1 year of previous scrubbing experience required.

  • Acute care experience preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

· Reads and writes Basic English with the basic skills necessary to transcribe physician’s orders

· Knowledge of body substance isolation

· Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, internal and external partners needs

· Knowledge of basic anesthesia principles

· Video equipment set up/troubleshooting skills

· Demonstraed skills in organization, verbal and written communications, customer service, math, analysis, reading, following instrcutions, basic computer usage.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • CST Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), Tech in Surgery Certification through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Certified Surgical Assistant through the National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA), or Certified Surgical Assistant through the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) preferred.

  • BLS-American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS Provider issued card required.

  • ACLS-American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS Provider issued card required.
