We are seeking a(an) Pharmacy Technician Certified PRN for our team to ensure that we continue to provide all patients with high quality, efficient care. Job Summary and Qualifications

  1. Technician Duties:

  2. Acts as a courier for retrieving and delivering med orders, medications, restock automatic dispensing cabinets, and any required paperwork or filing.

  3. Answers telephone, takes messages, answers routine non-clinical questions and refers telephone orders or clinical questions to a licensed pharmacist.

  4. Process wholesaler orders, returns and invoice payment by current method.

  5. Perform some secretarial functions. Assists the lead technicians.

  6. Assists the DOP in maintaining security of the pharmacy and scheduled drug control throughout the hospital.

  7. Assists the Director in drug procurement, receiving, storage, inventory control and floor stock control.

  8. Is familiar with the operation of the department. Must be able to function in an appropriate technician capacity, as scheduling and patient need demands.

  9. Fills med orders, refills carts, and floorstock, mixes IV medications for the Admixture service.

  10. Can complete check tech check for floorstock medications.

  11. Repackages (unit dose) medications for checking pharmacist.

  12. Performs clerical duties – drug charges, completes reports, filing, computer procedures.

  13. Maintain designated work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.

  14. Participates in performance improvement activities.

  15. Process narcotic orders and maintain all required DEA and state documentation.

  16. Organizes drug returns for wholesaler, or expired med returns, and reconciles amount to be received vs. checks received.

  17. Assists the DOP in developing and maintaining an accurate filing system by removing old reports and preparing for storage.

  18. Supervises and maintains inventory control processes and track cost savings for all ongoing and new SMAT initiatives.

  19. Keeps pharmacy technician registration current and provides DOP with most current copy for employee file

  20. Demonstrates working knowledge with the general duties of a Pharmacy technician including knowledge, and maintenance of competency and understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the position to which he/she is assigned which may include: unit dose cart fill, Automated Dispensing Cabinet functionality, IV preparation (e.g. syringes, admixtures, chemotherapy, continuous renal replacement therapy, total parenteral nutrition, etc.), unit dose packaging, filling outpatient prescriptions, bar-coding, Pharmacy inspections, oral liquid compounding, and code cart processes

Pharmaceutical Waste/ Hazardous Chemical :

1. Completes the RCRA and Pharmaceutical Waste Education for Pharmacy during new employee orientation, and annually

2. Is knowledgeable of the process for identifying the proper waste stream via Pyxis and the eMAR, and uses the appropriate container to dispose of waste

3. Responds to a release of Hazardous Chemicals or Hazardous Pharmaceuticals (P-listed) utilizing the facility Code Orange Response Plan

4. Knowledgeable regarding the process to contact the Emergency Response Coordinator for the Hazardous Chemical/ Pharmaceutical Release/Spill clean-up

What qualifications you will need:

I. Minimum Requirements:

Education: High School

Licensure/Certifications: Pharmacy Technician Registration with Board of Pharmacy, CPhT required by FRMC)

Experience: One year hospital preferred

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board

  • High School Graduate / GED

  • State Registration Pharmacy Technician, or State License Pharmacy Intern
