Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Radiologist, performs various Mammography procedures at a technical level requiring no constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures required. Recognizes the purpose of employment is to prioritize the patient as number one, and to put forth the utmost quality as a Technologist.

POPULATION SERVED:

Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: mammary disease and disorders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Selects and operates equipment, selecting proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.

  • Transfers and properly positions patients for examinations in order to obtain desired radiographic results according to physician specifications. Provides immobilization as required and protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.

  • Assists physicians in performance of examinations by mixing and pouring contrast media, administering opaque media, holding and turning patients, assisting in sterile procedures, and other related duties as required.

  • Performs a variety of clerical tasks to include, but not limited to: inputting/editing exams and completion of requisition prior to setting exam to be read.

  • Adheres to patient safety standards as appropriate.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS

  • ARRT registered required

  • Mammography Registry required

  • State of Texas TMB license required

  • BCLS certification required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of JRCERT approved radiologic technologist program.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, positioning, radiographic techniques, and radiation protection concepts and techniques; knowledge of radiographic physics, knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of anatomy, positioning, mammographic techniques and radiation protection in mammography.

  • Ability to determine exposure factors to achieve optimum radiographic images with a minimum exposure to patients; ability to examine radiographs for the purpose of evaluating techniques, positions, and other related qualities;

  • Ability to position patient and adjust equipment to produce desired radiographic image.

  • Ability to deviate from normal techniques when necessary to develop new and better techniques to keep the department up to date.

  • A complete knowledge and understanding of instrumentation to produce the finest quality performance of the equipment.
