Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Non-Invasive Clinical Coordinator, the Exercise Physiologist Level II obtains and records patient information into computer systems unique to cardiology, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose levels, and performs/Supervises noninvasive cardiac tests on an inpatient and outpatient basis, to determine the diagnosis and treatment of suspected or known cardiac disorders.

When working in Cardiac Rehab develops exercise programs and conducts cardiovascular testing to evaluate and rehabilitate adult and geriatric cardiac patients. Provides exercise education instruction and exercise classes for cardiac preventive medicine clinics. Administers health risk appraisals and provides cardiac lifestyle follow-up consults. Provides support and coverage in other areas of Cardiology as deemed necessary.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  1. Rooming and obtaining vitals for patients for the outpatient Cardiology Clinic

  2. Assure that effective services are provided and quality standards are met. Includes Non-invasive cardiac testing, Holter/event monitoring, and EKG.

  3. Maintains steady, productive patient flow in a manner consistent with total quality care

  4. Operates and troubleshoots computers and equipment used to produce, process, and optimize clinical data.

  5. Works proactively with other departments to facilitate scheduling and performance of testing and other patient care activities.

  6. Collaborates communicates and problem-solves regularly within and with other departments

  7. Demonstrates competence in the use of all computer systems unique to the cardiology department Ensure clinical excellence and quality assurance, optimal workflow, and scheduling of patients.

  8. Assessment of work environment and processes to identify safety risks.

  9. Excellent communication and physician collaboration is required

  10. Demonstrates the unit-specific skills required for assigned roles and service area

  11. Maintains required competencies based on high-risk/low-volume/problem-prone areas

  12. Ensure personal and department safety.

  13. Develops and adjusts individual patients’ exercise prescriptions based on ACSM guidelines.

  14. Is proficient in the use of all equipment and maintaining/calibrating equipment.

  15. Initiates exercise teaching with inpatients and outpatients.

  16. Initiates emergency measures per policy and procedure.

  17. Expands knowledge base of Cardiac Rehab through ongoing education.

  18. Assists with ongoing Quality Improvement.

  19. Keeps team members informed about individual patients’ progress.

  20. Assists in marketing of Cardiac Rehab Program.

  21. Assists in planning and implementing risk factor modification education for both inpatients and outpatients.

  22. Maintains supplies and department equipment according to department standards.

  23. Promotes internal and external customer satisfaction.

  24. Builds and promotes a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement.

  25. Attendance: works as scheduled and is compliant with the Attendance and Tardiness Policy.

  26. Schedule patients and obtain pertinent medical records

  27. Answers telephone calls in a prompt, courteous manner.

  28. Proficient in EKG interpretation and Arrhythmia recognition.

  29. Communicates with Providers regarding daily stress testing

Education & Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Sports Medicine. American Heart Association BCLS. American Heart Association ACLS within 6 months of hire, Certified Cardiac Technician (CCT) with-in 1 year.

Preferred: Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Sports Medicine. Six (6) months experience in cardiology involving the exercise treatment of cardiac patients. Certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as an Exercise Test Technologist or Exercise Specialist.
