Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Chaplain, you will provide spiritual care services for patients, families and staff in a variety of clinical settings and among a very diverse patient and staff demographic. The position requires critical assessment of spiritual need, awareness of the many contextual features impacting care, knowledge of clinical ethics process and law, and ability to manage oneself in complex crisis situations in a calm, thoughtful and professional manner.

  • Responds to referrals and pager calls immediately to assess need and timing of intervention.

  • Performs, as directed or appropriate, direct spiritual care and /or counseling services to patients, families, and staff in accordance with departmental standards.

  • Responds to Code calls within five minutes.

  • Serves as an initial contact and resource for Clinical Ethics consultation.

  • Responds to interdisciplinary referrals within the same day.

  • Participates in interdisciplinary meetings or care conferences related to assigned units.

  • Follows Spiritual Care procedure for crisis intervention and support.

Job Requirements

Experience

  • Required: at least one-year experience in hospital spiritual care, with preferable specialized experience in critical care, trauma, and/or oncology.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION : Must be or become a Board-Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains (or other accredited chaplain certifying body) within two years of hire date.

Education

  • Required: Master of Divinity (or equivalent) from an accredited theological seminary. Minimum of four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education. 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE)
